Beauty: ReNEW Skincare & Aesthetics Liverpool

I was invited alone to ReNEW Skincare & Aesthetics in Liverpool to have a facial peel.

I am 31, and my skin has definitely changed over the past couple of years. I felt I needed to up my skincare routine, and start to delve into professional treatments now and again.

My concerns included my skin looking very dull,  some mild acne scarring that occurred after I had my son, clogged pores around my chin, blackheads, and fine lines.

The facial peel I decided to have, and recommended by Dr Kate was a salicylic peel. I had never had a facial peel before, and was a little apprehensive about having it done. After doing some research online and chatting with Dr Kate via email, I felt a lot more comfortable having the treatment done. I thought your skin actually peeled off, and it would burn and I would be a walking, talking, peeling tomato. Well thankfully, this is not the case.

If you are thinking of having a salicylic facial peel the benefits include: reduction of acne, scarring, blemishes, clogged pores and in a nut-shell revitalises the overall appearance of the skin.

I met Dr Kate at her salon, which is bright and airy. Straight away her friendly and calm manner washed over me, and I felt super relaxed and reassured that I would survive the treatment.
(Yes, I am a drama queen).

Dr Kate talked me through the whole process, and went through the paperwork with me, answered all my questions with ease - showcasing a lot of knowledge and passion.

The treatment started with me lying down on the bed and my make-up being removed, and the skin cleared thoroughly. The salicylic acid peel was brushed on my face, and Dr Kate asked me: "If it felt okay?" It felt fine, I couldn't feel a thing. The smell was a little alcoholic, but I liked that it smelt so clinical.  As I was not experiencing any discomfort, another layer was added, again I didn't feel any discomfort, just a mild tingle. So a third layer was added. It was immediately apparent that the treatment was tailored to me. Dr Kate constantly asked me how it felt, and the treatment was tailored down to my reaction.

The salicylic acid peel was then removed with water and cleanser after around 5 minutes, and my skin felt amazing, so hydrated, firm and glowy. Dr Kate then applied some of the SPF from the "Renew" range that is exclusive to the salon. The Renew Factor 50 SPF is a firm cream, and a dull yellow colour. It smells uplifting and feels soothing on the skin. Dr Kate advised I use this for the next week, as it is advised that you don't expose your face to any sun exposure after a facial peel.

Aftercare included using the Renew Cleanser morning and evening, keeping out the sun, applying the Renew SPF, and wearing minimal make-up.

I left feeling super happy with the whole treatment, and wondered why I ever felt apprehensive about having it done.

The first evening my skin looked red, but there was no discomfort at all - my skin just felt a little firm.

The next day the redness had subsided and my skin looked really healthy. I cleansed my face with the *Renew Cleanser. It is a white light colour and a milk texture, it smells amazing, like freshly squeezed oranges. The milk feels soothing and nourishing on application. (I have used this for weeks now, and I really adore it, especially of a morning, from the texture to the scent, it is all very uplifting).

I then would apply the Renew SPF, which is also nourishing, and very light-weight. This was an element I adored, as some facial SPF's can feel heavy and like a mask on the skin. This absorbed quickly, and as it is not a white cream there is no white cast left on the skin. I then didn't put any make-up on, and hid under a cap for the day.

This process carried on for around 4 days, it was on the 5th day that my skin started to go really dry around my chin, and lower face. This is all it is, not actually you skin peeling, just really dry skin. Over the next 2 days this process travelled up my face to my forehead. I used the cleanser morning and evening, and applied the SPF every morning.

Even though you can wear minimal make-up after the treatment, I got used to wearing no make-up, I think the main reason for this, was my skin had looked the best it had in a long while - even with all the dryness.

After the dryness had subsided my skin looked really great. The texture was smooth, clogged pores were visibly reduced, and my skin had a gorgeous natural glow.

I have booked in for another treatment, as a course is recommended to see drastic improvements.
I was so impressed with the whole process from start-to-finish. I am excited to see what the future holds, in regards to my skin condition improving.

So if you suffer with acne scarring, clogged pores, blackheads and congested skin I thoroughly recommend a salicylic peel.

  1. A great review and enjoyed reading all about this peel, like you I would feel a little unsure about having this sort of treatment done on my skin, however after reading your post it does seem as though it isn't too bad at all.

    A great read!
